What is the difference between O and B reversing valves? ›

An “O” reversing valve is energized when cooling and a “B” reversing valve is energized when heating. Most systems use an O type reversing valve. Rheem and Ruud typically use a B type reversing valve. If you are unsure, contact your Heat Pump manufacturer.

The O terminal connects to the orange wire and is used when the system that you are using has a reversing valve (or four-way valve), which activates when running cooling mode. If the reversing valve is turned on when running heat mode, you will need to connect the reversing valve to the B terminal.
