A Berry Sweet First Birthday (2024)

A first birthday is such a tremendous milestone for both the little one and their parents and it absolutely warrants a fun celebration; and that is absolutely what I planned for thisberry sweet birthday girl!

When I was hired on by the mom of the birthday girl, she had already picked out the Strawberry Picnic theme and their favorite park as the location but she was unsure where to go from there. I positively loved the party theme idea for this little cutie, Amelia, whom her close friends and family call “Millie”. What I loved most about this idea is that it screamed summer fun and was so very sweet but was not the typical pink overload that is common with girls’ parties.

I immediately hit the ground running planning this party, finding inspiration everywhere from the local farmers market to the summer decor lined aisles of some of my favorite stores. I was in Strawberry heaven!

Although I do love every single thing that I sourced for this birthday, my initial inspiration came from the most darling kraft paper disposable berry baskets that I found on one of my favorite websites, Sweet Lulu, a site for kids specialty trendy party decor and gift items.

These super sweet baskets had handles on them and worked perfectly for a pre-made grab-and-go picnic basket for the kids. To keep with the theme I lined each basket with wild-strawberry parchment paper which added the cutest little touch. I made kid-friendly lunches with organic juice boxes, a package of sliced apples, a little bag of gold fish, and uncrustables sandwich that I unwrapped and placed inside small kraft bags that I then hole-punched and tied closed with red & white bakers twine. Each child was invited to grab a basket and make themselves comfortable at one of the parks’ picnic benches or one of the picnic blankets I scattered around the lawn area.

Of course, these little baskets were just the start of all the little details that I picked out and planned for this party. From the moment the guests arrived at the public park, they were greeted by a small market cart that invited all guests to Amelia’s Berry Farm with a custom chalkboard sign! The cart held bubbles for the kids to enjoy while they waited for the bubble-magician to begin his show as well as festive party hats the went perfectly with the color-scheme, and a basket of berries to snack on before lunch. If this little birthday girl enjoying her party decor isn’t the cutest thing…

Since this party was for adults, also, I made sure to have adult-friendly food that was conducive to park picnic and of course a bar with both non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks. I used a large galvanized tub for all of the drinks and plastic reusable wine tumblers to help eliminate waste and stay away from glass. For lunch I chose a menu of light and fresh salads along with a variety of sandwiches. Knowing that parents would be watching kids while eating it was important to make lunch easy to eat while standing if necessary! I provided plastic plates with the cutest scalloped edge detail in a pretty coral color. For utensils I made it easier for everyone by creating cutlery kits. I took a wooden spoon, fork, and knife and wrapped it envelope style with a red and white polka dot napkin then tucked it into a little parchment paper pouch that said “Berry Sweet” in red on the front. I displayed all utensil packs in a basket so that everyone could grab a pouch with their lunch and go!

I wanted to make sure that the flow of the party was light and easy and that no one felt rushed to eat and leave so I had snacks scattered around in the cutest little berry baskets from Sweet Lulu. I had fresh strawberries and pretzels to much on and a basket full of grab-and-go snacks to make snacking while chasing kids around easier!

We know kids mostly love going to birthday parties because of the desserts and, well, adults likely agree! I did not hold back on this super cute dessert table for Amelia’s Berry First Birthday! With a precious garland and huge red balloon with coordinating tassel by Lifted Balloonspaired with a sweet strawberry print tablecloth by Kate Spadeand all of the adorable picnic baskets I could find – this table was the cutest! I had “ONE” letters custom made on Etsy in the strawberry theme which added the perfect touch to the birthday girls dessert table! I had a smash cake and the most detailed – and delicious – cake pops and cookies made by Big Mama Sugar Cookiesand vegan pie pops and chocolate dipped strawberries by Desserts by Sabina to complete the yummy dessert offerings!

To capture all of her friends and family in attendance and remember this special day forever, all guests signed a Very Berry Counting book for Amelia with sweet little birthday messages! I’m sure she loves hearing her mommy and daddy read those to her and will cherish it forever.

This sweet birthday girl thanked all of her little friends with custom-made favors of berry baskets lined with strawberry printed parchment paper, bubbles, sidewalk chalk and a special little strawberry cookie! Each little basket was wrapped with a red gingham ribbon and finished off with a sweet little thank you message! What more could a birthday party-goer ask for?

From start to finish this Berry Sweet birthday party was such a joy to work on! Amelia and her parents were all so wonderful and everyone had such a great time celebrating this little cuties big birthday!

Here’s to many more happy birthdays, sweet Amelia!
