Obituary Preview: Mass of Christian Burial for Mariam “Mimi” Frenier of Morris, Minnesota, will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris, with Father Todd Schneider serving as celebrant. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Mariam Catherine Adams, daughter of Earl Walter and Catherine Jenny (Primm) Adams, was born January 29, 1936, in Deadwood, South Dakota. She had one sister, Nancy Jane Adams. Mimi graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1953. She was united in marriage to Lionel Anthony Darce in 1955. They had a son, Mark Walter who was born in 1956 and passed away in 1957. Their second son, Eric William Darce was born in 1959. Mimi attended Kent State University where she received her B.S. Degree in 1965, and MA Degree in 1967. She later attended University of Iowa receiving a PhD in 1978. She was united in marriage to Robert H. Frenier in 1969 inheriting his three sons: Robert, John and Will. Mimi taught history and women’s studies as a professor at University of Minnesota Morris from 1973 to 2004. She taught intro to women’s studies from 2005-2006. She continued to live in Morris until the time of her death.

Mimi was passionate about gardening, literature, Asian culture and history, which lead to trips to China and Vietnam. She was an extremely engaging conversationalist and could challenge anyone on an intellectual level. Her accomplishments were myriad, her contribution to education immeasurable. She will be missed.

Mimi passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. She was 86 years old.

She is survived by three sons: Eric (Alicia) Frenier of Morris, John (Jerilen) Frenier of Williamsburg, IA and Robert Frenier of Brattleboro, VT. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons: Mark Darce and Will Frenier and sister: Nancy Adams.

Irene Lois Shelstad, the daughter of Edward Peter and Myrtle Mary (Kerch) Shelstad was born on November 12, 1926, in Bradford Township, Wilken County, Minnesota. She graduated from Breckenridge High School in Breckenridge, Minnesota, attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and later graduated from UMM. Irene married Arnold Henjum on June 9, 1949.

Irene died peacefully on Sunday, April 17, 2022, at the Wealshire of Medina Assisted Living in Medina; she lived to 95 years old.

Irene is survived by her children: Dr. Brian (Pamela) Henjum, and Barbara (Jeff Brownlee) Henjum; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers; two sisters; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnold; daughter, Lee Ann Ott; and sister Eleanor Burgett.

Lilla Margaret Alfson, daughter of Selmer and Alma (Anderson) Alfson, was born February 22, 1913, at her home in Framnas Township near Cyrus, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Petri Lutheran Church. Lilla grew up and attended school in Cyrus, graduating with the class of 1931. She was united in marriage to Martin Estenson July 28, 1934. Following their marriage, the couple lived on a farm, where they raised their family of five. When Martin retired from farming, they moved into Cyrus. Lilla worked as a nursing assistant for many years and helped many families through difficult times. Martin passed away November 18, 2001. Lilla continued to live in Cyrus until the age of 98 when she moved to Morris, where she continued to live until the time of her death.

Lilla loved to sew, making small quilts for babies, and donating them to third world countries. She enjoyed scrapbooking, gardening, canning, playing games and cards, and crocheting. She also loved teaching her grandkids, writing, making Norwegian goodies including lefse, krumkake, and rommegrot. She took many walks along Lake Emily looking for special rocks and arrowheads to share with her family. She had great faith and it was to trust in God’s love for us by living what we know to be true. The angels have taken her home and I know she is happy to be there. She will be missed by all of her family.

Lilla passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at West Wind Village in Morris. She was 109 years old.

She is survived by four children: Marlys Kannegiesser of Chula Vista, CA; Monroe (Cheryl) Estenson, Scott (Diane) Estenson and Mark (Angela) Estenson all of Morris; 11 grandchildren: Jeff (Karen) Kannegiesser, Debbie Kannegiesser, Randy Kannegiesser, Lance Kannegiesser, Greg Estenson, Jennifer (James) Schemmel, Alan (Jennifer) Estenson, Brenda Estenson, Tanya (Matt Rinkenberger) Estenson, Tammi (Bob) Kramer, Hannah (Jason) Umlauf; 12 great-grandchildren: Alexandra Estenson, Heaven Kannegiesser, Savanna Wrobleski, Paden Rinkenberger, Abbey (Dominic Voit) Kramer, Andrew Kramer, Jeffrey (Analysa Hang) Schemmel, Joshua (Carley) Schemmel, Jacob Schemmel (Indigo Sci Larsen), Joey Kannegiesser and Heather Kannegiesser; three great-great-grandchildren: Brinnley, Breccan and Keegan Schemmel; two brothers: Gordon Alfson of Morris and James (Shirley) Alfson of Ham Lake; one sister: Jean Anderson of Morris; sister-in-law: Marjorie Alfson of Cyrus; brother-in-law: Charles Bright of Alexandria and many nieces and nephews. Obituary Preview: Memorial Services for Marie Olson will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, MN. A visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be held at a later date at Nidaros Lutheran Cemetery in Hammer, South Dakota.

Marie Emily Ann Farinella was born January 28, 1938, in St. Paul, MN to Erfanny and Evelyn (Webber) Farinella. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in St. Paul. Marie graduated from Monroe High School in 1957. Following high school, she began working at Hanco*ck Nelson Wholesale Grocery, where she met Russell Olson, a forklift driver. They soon began dating and were married on May 14, 1960 at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. They purchased their home in St. Paul and welcomed two daughters in to their family. Marie started her own business as an in-home daycare provider and was lovingly referred to as “Mama-Rie” by all the children she cared for over 30 years in business. Marie retired in 1994, when her first grandchild was born. Her and Russell continued to live in St. Paul until June 2021, when they sold their home of 60 years, and relocated to Morris to be closer to family. She loved living at Skyview Senior Living, and all of the wonderful staff there.

Marie was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary, volunteering countless hours to the Mendota VFW Post 6690. Her service to the VFW and veterans was of upmost importance to her. She was very active at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in St. Paul, where she served on the Altar Guild. A few of her hobbies included: creating beautiful centerpieces and wreaths for the VFW, catering hundreds of funerals, watching Hallmark movies, cooking and baking, especially her homemade buns, chocolate peanut candies, pasta and her famous chicken dumpling soup. Most important was her family. She enjoyed her daughters’ activities, notably as a Girl Scout Troop Leader. She was so proud of her grandchildren and loved to share in their activities. She cherished all the time she was able to spend with them and her husband.

Marie died peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Friday, April 15, 2022, at the West Wind Village Nursing Home in Morris, MN. Marie was 84 years old.

Marie is survived by her husband, Russell of Morris; her daughters: Lisa (Andy Kessler) Olson of Hastings, Jennifer (Kevin) Schaefer of Alberta; 5 grandchildren: Hunter, Anna, Serena, Echo and Colton; great-grandson, Aiden; sister Bonnie Hau of Chisago; brother Ervin Farinella of Inver Grove Heights; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, David and Martina Olson; sister JoAnn Schneider; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law on both sides of the family.

Mark Ronald Papesh, son of Ronald and Sharilyn (Jacobson) Papesh, was born July 3, 1968, in Morris, Minnesota. He was baptized at Kongsvinger Lutheran Church in Donnelly and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris. Mark grew up and attended school in Morris graduating with the class of 1986. Following high school, Mark attended college in Brainerd where he studied Natural Resources. He fulfilled his lifelong dream of working with nature and made a 31-year career working as a wildlife technician for the DNR in the Brainerd, Morris, Glenwood and Fergus Falls areas. Throughout his successful career, Mark worked as a Burn Boss and Incident Commander where he took lead on controlled fires as well as wildfires.

Mark loved his weekend road trip adventures with his love, Carla. The couple never really had a plan but would always end up with a full stomach and great memories. He was known as a man who loved his food. He was always the last one to dish up, and the last one to leave the table. He loved to share photos of his meals with friends and family. Mark took much pride in his job and was an amazing leader and mentor. He loved nature and animals and loved to share his lifelong knowledge with anyone who was willing to learn. Mark would always be a phone call away for anyone who needed advice. Mark was a very private man, but you could always count on him being there for you.

Mark passed away Monday, April 11, 2022 at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus, Falls, MN. He was 53 years old.

He is survived by his life partner and love of his life: Carla Koski of Fergus Falls; mother: Sharilyn Papesh of Glenwood; two children: Nickolas and Randy; two grandchildren: Maleenah Renee Papesh and Gauge Mark Papesh; sister: Christa (Jeff) Flaten of Hanco*ck; brother: Paul (Jessie) Papesh of Starbuck; special family: NaCole Koski, Cody Koski, Mason Ferden, Easton Ferden, Jayton Payson and LaVae Moen; nieces and nephews: Ryan (Megan) Flaten, Tara Flaten, Emelia Schoen and Bailey Schoen; great-niece and nephew: Zane Thoennes and Oaklyn Flaten; aunts and uncles: Linda Printup, Judy Wensmann, Peggy Papesh, Steve Papesh, Loretta (Brad) Sand, Timm (Nita) Papesh, Peggy Jacobson, Wayne Jacobson and Marlene (JeanGuy) Jacobson; several cousins and his favorite dog: Harley David. Obituary Preview: Funeral Services for Dorothy Farwell of Morris will be held Friday April 22nd at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris, with Pastor Vicki Toutges officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Burial will take place at Summit Cemetery in Morris.

Dorothy Geneva Anderson was born on November 2, 1929 to Joseph and Anna (Hoium) Anderson in Cyrus, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Cyrus Lutheran Church and attended her schooling years at Cyrus Public School until graduating the 12th grade in 1948. Shortly after graduation, Dorothy married Willis Wells on September 9, 1947and lived on a farm near Hanco*ck. In 1951 the couple moved to Morris where they would be blessed with three daughters. During her time away from home, Dorothy enjoyed working as a nursing assistant at the St. Francis Nursing Home. She worked as a nursing assistant for 26 years before retiring, and later returning to the field post-retirement as a home health aide.

On March 1, 1972, Dorothy’s first husband, Willis, passed away. Dorothy continued to live in Morris until marrying Frank Farwell in 1978. The couple lived on a farm south of Alberta until Frank’s retirement in 2006, and then moved to Morris and lived at West Central Homes. Frank passed away on December 30, 2010. After Frank’s passing, Dorothy continued to live in Morris until the time of her death.

During her life, Dorothy was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and a life member of the VFW Auxiliary and American Legion. She enjoyed fishing going to dances with her husband Frank, watching the Minnesota Twins, and loved hosting holidays and cooking. She especially enjoyed having lunches and talking on the phone with her friends and family. Dorothy always remembered her family on their birthday and would make sure to send a card.

Dorothy died on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at West Wind Village in Morris; she was 92 years old.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Peggy Lesmeister of St. Peter and Diane Wells of Hanco*ck; five grandchildren: Chad (Diane) Lesmeister, Kelly (Michael) Kennedy, James (Kim) Lesmeister, Jenny Cook and Angie Cook; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters: Celia Heggestad, Lorraine Lindor and Joann (Jerry) Holten; brother-in-law: Merlin Wells; sister-in-law: Ellen Farwell and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband: Willis Wells; second husband: Frank Farwell; her daughter: Jodi Hagen; her parents; sons-in-law: Steve Lesmeister and Dave Hagen; sisters: Arlene Benson and Exie Hendrickson and brother: Arden Anderson.

Bonnie Lou Bergeland was born in Dawson, Lac Qui Parle County, Minnesota on April 12, 1941, to Harvey and Ann (Belsaas) Bergeland. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Dawson. Bonnie moved with her family to Correll, and then Odessa, Minnesota where she received her education, graduating with the Odessa High School Class of 1959. Following her schooling, she stayed at the high school and was employed as a secretary. While working, Bonnie met a schoolteacher, Anthony “Tony” Ludwig. The two began dating and were married on July 1, 1961. They remained in Odessa for a bit before moving to Parker’s Prairie, Alexandria, and then Morris. They added three boys to their family: Todd, Joe and Terry. Bonnie stayed home to care for the children until Terry went to school. Bonnie worked at Federated Church and then the Morris DAC until her retirement in the late 90s. In 2000, Bonnie and Tony relocated to their home on Pocket Lake near Alexandria. Tony died in December 2003. Bonnie continued to live at the lake until she moved to Morris in 2018. She lived ather apartment in Morris until this year,when she moved toWest WindVillage.

Bonnie was a member of Federated Church in Morris and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed being a part of numerous Bridge clubs, sports booster clubs, and her lunch bunch group. Bonnie was a big fan of Elvis and enjoyed listening to his music and collecting various Elvis treasures. In earlier years, she and Tony enjoyed dancing. Bonnie loved the outdoors: gardening, birdwatching, being at Pocket Lake and sitting at a campfire until wee hours of the night. Those nights were made better with family, friends, s’mores and an occasional Corona. Bonnie would travel many miles to watch her grandchildren’s church and school activities, to visit family and attend her annual cousin’s weekend. Bonnie also enjoyed entertaining, complete with beautifully selected paper napkins for all occasions. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and having treats all throughout her home for her guests to enjoy.

Most importantly, Bonnie was full of selfless hospitality. She always had room to welcome others into her home and made everyone feel like they were part of her family. She truly cared for people and had a way of making them feel like they were the most important person in the world to her. She was forever putting others before herself and will always be known for her heartfelt term of endearment, Bless Your Heart.

Bonnie died on Monday, March 28, 2022, at West Wind Village in Morris; she was 80 years old.

Bonnie is survived by her sons: Todd (Heather) of Marshall, Joe (Renee) of Circle Pines, and Terry (Jasmine) of Andover; grandsons: Hunter (Kayla) of Lino Lakes, Bailey (Jessica) of Centerville, Anthony and Albi of Andover; great-granddaughters: Macy, Kylie and one on the way; brothers: Michael (Joy Dunn) Bergeland of Maple Plain, and Jeffrey (Lana) Bergeland of Alexandria; brother-in-law, Larry (Marion) Ludwig of Waukee, IA; nieces and nephews: Beth (Jerry) Slagter of Waukee, IA, Eric Ludwig of Waukee, IA, Peter Bergeland of Maplewood, Cathy (Scott) Leonard of Cottage Grove, Jennifer (Adam) Sommerness of Cottage Grove, and Kari (Jay) Kopischke of Minnetonka; great-nieces and great-nephews; and numerous cousins, extended family, and many dear friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Tony; sister-in-law, Betty Bergeland; and her parents.

Obituary Preview: Funeral services for Stella Raasch of Morris, formerly of Chokio will be held Monday, March 28, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio, with Reverend Erik Rundquist officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 p.m.to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be in Synnes Cemetery, rural Alberta, MN.

Stella Francis Jorgenson was born to John and Delia (Basinger) Jorgenson January 27th, 1928, in Pepperton Township, Stevens County, Minnesota. She was united in marriage to Lloyd Raasch on April 17th, 1945, at Trinity Lutheran Church, south of Alberta. The first couple years of their marriage were not easy, because Lloyd was almost immediately called away to war in Europe. Once he safely returned, they started farming south of Chokio, where they lived until they retired and moved into Chokio. Many locals still remember the “Pink Palace”, Stella sure loved that color! Stella never let any grass grow under her feet, she waitressed at several different restaurants over the years, she worked on the farm side by side with Lloyd, and she always had lots of chickens, both to butcher and for eggs. She and Lloyd cleaned Our Saviors church for 13 years, and for over 25 years she worked at the Chokio Senior Center, both as a volunteer and a paid employee. She will long be remembered for her doughnuts, pies and cookies. She loved to bake; it was almost impossible to visit Stella without her serving you some tasty treat. Stella also enjoyed gardening, she was 89 when she moved into assisted living at the Legacy in Morris, but she still took it upon herself to make sure that the flowers around the building were well taken care of, even keeping her own flower box outside of her window! The older she got, the more nicknames she earned: Mrs. Stella, Energizer Bunny, Spitfire, and Spunky are just a few given to her by friends and her caregivers. Her only “lazy” pastime was that she never made it past a swing without trying it out! Family was always important to Stella, there were many Sunday and holiday dinners out at the farm, and she and Lloyd loved the annual family vacations at the lake with all the kids and grandkids. The grandkids all knew there would be fresh baked cookies every day at Grandma Stella’s cabin! Lloyd and Stella had many good friends. They often spent evenings playing cards or going dancing at the Lakeside ballroom, where they had a standing reservation for a booth on Saturday nights.

On the morning of March 23, 2022, our Lord called Stella Raasch home, so she could spend the rest of eternity with her beloved husband Lloyd, whom she had missed dancing with ever since his death in 2005.

Stella is survived by her children: Linda Anderson, Michael, Sandra (Richard) Reimers, Barbara (Wayne) Charles, Lorna (Clark) DeCamp, Jackie (Jim) Krosch, Pam (Paul) Daly, Connie (Wayne) Gillespie; 25 Grandchildren; 51 Great-grandchildren with number 52 on its way; her first Great-great grandchild should be arriving any day; and sister-in-law Punky Raasch. She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd; infant daughter Peggy; son-in-law Robert Anderson; her parents; brothers Harlan (Bud) and Milas (Molly); and sister Fern.

Obituary Preview: Mass of Christian Burial for Ordell Ritter of Chokio, MN will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at 10:30 a.m.at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chokio, with Father John Paul Knopik serving as celebrant. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chokio and for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Chokio.

Ordell Joseph Ritter was born on July 7, 1937, in Graceville, Minnesota to Charles and Florence (Grossman) Ritter. He was raised on a farm near Chokio, Minnesota. Ordell was raised in the Catholic faith and was a life-long member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he was baptized and confirmed his faith. He received his education at country school and then Chokio High School. He graduated from Chokio High School in 1955. Following his education, he farmed and was a popular bartender at the local bar. He met his future wife, Carol Osterberg - a new-to-town school teacher, and they were married on December 27, 1960, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chokio. They originally made their home on a farm near Chokio and began their family – welcoming six daughters – who he raised in a home with one bathroom! In 1970, Ordell purchased a truckline and moved his family from the farm to Chokio. He and Carol owned and operated Ritter Trucking for many years. In 1974, the shop part of the business burned to the ground with all the trucks and maintenance equipment inside. With the resilience and strength of those who came before them and the love, support, and sweat equity of their family and community, Ordell and Carol rebuilt the business and “The Shop.” He never forgot the generosity of others during some of his darkest days and spent the balance of his life finding ways to give back. Ordell really never retired, but hauled hogs and gravel, worked for the local fertilizer plant and pushed snow while he slowly eased into retirement. Carol preceded him in death in 2015; he continued to live independently at his home until January of 2022, when he went to Knute Nelson Care Center in Alexandria where he lived until his death.

Ordell was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Chokio Sportsmen Club – raising pheasants for the group, the Chokio Community Club and served as an usher at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Ordell looked forward to his annual fall deer hunting trips to the Koochiching State Forest, a trip that started with his father and lasted for more than 50 years. He loved his relationships, especially those he shared with his weekday coffee crew and all who joined him at 3:15pm for 6-5-4 dice games at The Shop on Beer Belly Boulevard. Ordell LOVED Chokio – he was involved and willing to do what he could to support his town. His people and his relationships were everything to him, he had friends of all ages. Ordell loved to have a good conversation and to tell stories. He was a bullsh*tter and could spin a story. You would maybe hear the truth 50% of the time, and if his grin came out, it was sure to be just a story! Ordell cherished his big family, he was proud of his daughters and was fond of spending time with all of them and their families.

Ordell died peacefully with family at his side on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at Knute Nelson Care Center in Alexandria, Minnesota; he was 84 years old.

Norene Frances Kempf was born on January 20, 1925, the youngest of four children to Nathaniel and Olive (Fehr) Kempf in Eureka, Illinois. Norene was raised in Eureka where she received her education and attended the Apostolic Christian Church. After her schooling, Norene helped on the family farm, including milking cows. She also worked at the local grocery store, Traver’s Grocery. Through the church, Norene was introduced to David Moser. They were united in marriage on March 9, 1958, in Eureka. Following their marriage, they moved to Morris and purchased a farm and started their family. Norene stayed home with her children while they were young; she raised chickens and sold eggs, washed clothing for other families, and made many, many meals for the farmers. When the youngest went to school, she began her career working in food service at the University of Minnesota in Morris. David and Norene moved off of the farm and into Morris in 1986. David died in 1993; Norene continued to live at their home until her move to Skyview Court and ultimately West Wind Village where she lived until her death.

In later years, Norene and David spent many days traveling, and fishing. They made several trips up north and to Mobridge and also went on their annual trips to see the changing leaves. Norene enjoyed sewing and crocheting, especially afghans that she gave as gifts to many people in the area. In her later years, Norene loved walking and spending time with her family, especially babysitting her grandchildren.

Norene died peacefully on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at the West Wind Village in Morris, she was 97 years old.

Norene is survived by her children: Mike (Cindy) Moser of Willmar, Renaee (Al) Schreck of Appleton, and Jon (Lori) Moser of Morris; 10 grandchildren: Nick (Alli) Moser of Pennock, David Moser of Willmar, Makayla (Jared) Flower of Holloway, Kelsey (Matt) Tollefson of Appleton, Joey (fiancée Jordan) Schreck of Appleton, Andy Schreckof Appleton, Jenna (Reed) Kampmeier of Chokio, Jake (Kirsten) Moser of Morris, Joanna (Alex) Guttormsson of Brookings, Justus Moser of Morris; and 16 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, David; her great-grandson, Cade Alan Flower; and siblings and their spouses: Ervin (Alice) Kempf, Laydene (Thurston “Bob”) Hinrichsen, and Lillian (Edward) Koehl.

Caroline Louise (Sauter) Woolridge was born to William and Catherine Sauter on December 26, 1926 in Synnes Township, Stevens County Minnesota. She was the sixth of twelve children. Caroline was united in marriage to Wallace (Wally) Woolridge on June 17, 1948 in Morris, MN where they continued to live and raise their family of nine children. She was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Christian Mothers Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Assumption Catholic Church.

In addition to being a mother of nine, she worked part-time at various businesses in Morris until 2005. Caroline was known for her unforgettable caramel rolls, apples bars, angel food cakes, and sprinkle sugar cookies. After retiring, Caroline enjoyed spending time at the lake, camping, fishing, and visiting with her family. She loved sitting by the lake watching the world go by. She also enjoyed putting together puzzles.

Caroline passed away peacefully at the Stevens Community Medical Center on March 5, 2022, at 95 years old.

Caroline was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wally; her daughter, Joyce Shelton; grandsons: Christopher Woolridge and Jeremiah Gustafson; daughter-in-law, Beth Woolridge; son-in-law, Allen Kohler; as well her brothers and sisters: Mary Meyer, Ben Sauter, Joe Sauter, Willie Sauter, Dorothy Meyer, Eleanor Logan, Catherine Logan and Irene Schuster.

Caroline is survived by her four sons and four daughters: Mike (Anita) Woolridge of East Bethel, Linda (Dan) Roberts of Alexandria, Diane Woolridge of Coon Rapids, Sandy (Gary) Thorstad of Morris, Patt (David) Gustafson of Onamia, Mark (Lynn) Woolridge of Morris, Matt Woolridge of Coon Rapids, and Myron (Kelly) Woolridge of Isanti. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren; three sisters: Lorraine Woolridge, Delores Koplin, Rosella Juergensen; and many nieces and nephews.

Donald Keith Bahr was born to Edward and Laveta (Martin) Bahr on January 29, 1930, on the family farm in Elbow Lake Township in Grant County, Minnesota. He was united in marriage to Bergetta Smith on November 28, 1950. The couple made their home near Donald’s father Ed and brother Jerry, to start their family. The three gentlemen would help on each other’s farms by feeding the cattle, to harvesting the crops. Don and Bergetta raised their two children, Deborah and Russell in the Morris area, before building their own house in town. He was proud of their house in Morris. He had done all the designing himself, leaving him with a great view of the Pomme de Terre River. Bergetta passed away on April 24, 1996. Don married Donna Eystad on January 3, 1998, and she passed away on July 26, 2010.

Donald was a patient, hard working man, who knew when to crack a good joke. He was smart with his earnings and invested them wisely. He was able to retire in his mid-fifties to travel the country with Bergetta in their motor home. They made many friends on their many adventures and would keep in contact to travel together. Family was so important to Donald. He was a talented soap stone carver and maker of jewelry and belt buckles; he always gifted his best work to those he loved. Don adored the Minnesota Vikings and would not miss a game. He was a gifted shooter bringing home many trapshooting trophies and awards.

Donald passed away Sunday, February 27, 2022, in the care of West Wind Village of Morris, MN. He was 92 years old.

Donald will be greatly missed by his daughter, Deborah (Chuck) Huss of Plymouth; his son, Russell (Brenda) Bahr of Capistrano Beach, CA; five grandchildren, Keith “Grizz” Bahr and Rachel “Mandy” (Mark Baldwin) Bahr, Shannon Huss, Mikki (Adam) fa*gan and Casey (Brandon) Krebsbach; seven great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Oliver Baldwin, Addie MacKinnon, Reese and Huck fa*gan and Kenna and Charlie Krebsbach and one brother, Jerry (Sharon) Bahr of Morris. Bruce Nicholas Stark passed away at the age of 91 on February 23, 2022, in Morris, Minnesota.

Bruce was born May 12, 1930, to Bernard Francis and Emma Elizabeth (Harris) Stark, in Duluth, Minnesota. He grew up in Midway Township, just outside of Proctor, Minnesota. As a child of The Great Depression, his family’s struggles during the 1930s greatly shaped his views and instilled in him a desire to always make sure he could provide for his family.

His refuge as a child was his grandparents’ farm set on a beautiful portion of the Midway River. His grandparents meant the world to him, and his grandfather, Charles Stark, was his hero. Charles taught Bruce the need to be self-sufficient and the importance of knowing your history.

The “Renaissance Man” that the world saw when they met Bruce began in high school where Bruce sang in choir, acted in plays, played basketball and was a champion welterweight Golden Glove boxer.

Following graduation from Proctor High School, Bruce joined the United States Navy and served at the U.S. Naval Air Station in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and aboard the USS Gordius on a mission to Thule, Greenland. Bruce’s experiences in Cuba were among his fondest. He loved the country and the culture. He always hoped to return but was unable after the Cuban revolution, but he’d take every opportunity he could to speak Spanish with anyone. Bruce fondly remembered his years in the Navy and was forever grateful for the experiences and sailors he served with.

While the Gordius was undergoing an overhaul at port in Norfolk, Va. to prepare for the invasion of Korea, Bruce met the love of his life, Louise Ida DaSheill. They were married in Ellicott City, Maryland, on November 25, 1951. Fortunately for his descendants, the Gordius was never deployed to Korea and Bruce and Louise welcomed their children Debra in 1952 and Richard in 1954.

Bruce always had a desire to become a teacher and he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from University Minnesota, Duluth in 1957 and his Master’s Degree in Education in 1959. After his graduation in 1957 he was offered a contract to teach at Hibbing High School which he accepted. He continued teaching and working as the District curriculum director in Hibbing for 30 years retiring in 1986. He continued his love of education by teaching at area Community Colleges for a number of years after his retirement from Hibbing High. He was a popular and respected educator by both his students, fellow teachers and administrators.

Bruce embodied a philosophy of stoic self-sufficiency. He was a skilled craftsman building the family cabin on Burnt Shanty Lake and then then his and Louise’shome on Crooked Lake in Northern Minnesota. He also built boats, furniture and cabinetry. He was passionate about education, a voracious reader, loved to write and debate politics and world events.

In 2006, Bruce and Louise left Bruce’s beloved Great North Woods and moved to Morris to be with the rest of his immediate family that had congregated in Morris. He loved being able to see his great grandson, but really missed trees.

He was the patriarch of the extended Stark family, the family historian, and the link to his family’s heritage and history that meant so much to him. He lived long and well.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Emma and brothers Tom and Dave. He is survived by his wife, Louise; daughter, Debra Stark and son Rick (Debby) Stark, grandson Jason (Lynnae) Lina; granddaughter Caitlin Stark (Casey Dean); and great grandson, Oscar Lina, who, as Bruce would tell anyone, was his best friend.

Kevin William Loen was born on May 18, 1952, in Benson, Minnesota, to Delmer and Audrey (Welker) Loen. He was raised in Benson and was baptized at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Benson in 1952 by Reverend Harold Neisheim. Kevin was confirmed on October 29, 1967, during his 10th grade year, at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson by Reverend Melvin R. Sucher. Kevin received his education in the Benson school district, graduating with the class of 1970. Following high school, he went to St. Cloud Technical College for a short time and then was drafted in 1972. On October 12, 1974, Kevin was united in marriage to Violet Wersinger at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson. The couple made their home in Benson and welcomed three children: Megan, Casey, and Garth. In the fall of 1977, he attended NDSCS and graduated in 1979 with honors. Kevin returned to Benson and began working in the family business, Loen Electric. He became a co-owner and in 2020, he retired.

Kevin served in the United States Navy from 1973 – 1977 and was very proud of his service. He was stationed on the USS Juneau, during this time, the ship was stationed outside of the Vietnam War in 1976 and he also served three months in Alaska. Kevin was part of the 2nd crew on the ship; the USS Juneau is now retired and currently located near Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Kevin was honorably discharged in February of 1979 and returned home. On November 10, 2010, Kevin was united in marriage to Debra Gunder Boettcher in Glenwood, Minnesota. They blended their families and made their home in Benson. In November of 2013, they moved to Morris, Minnesota.

In his younger years, Kevin played football and basketball, he was an accomplished diver and could be found in the swimming pool any chance he got. While his children were young, he would take them to make pottery every weekend. He enjoyed cooking and baking and would take special requests for things like his famous buttermilk brownies and bran muffins. Kevin also liked hunting and camping, with Swift Falls being his favorite camping spot. He was a member of the Benson VFW, the Benson Fire Department, and the Knights of Columbus. Most importantly, Kevin cherished the time that he was able to spend with his family, especially his kids and grandchildren.

Kevin died unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, Minnesota; he was 69 years old.

Norene Ione Schmidgall was born in Hanco*ck, MN, on February 5, 1933, to John and Lizzie (Metzger) Schmidgall. She was the 15th of 17 children. She grew up in the town of Hanco*ck and started her career working for Hanco*ck Bank and eventually worked for the law firm Gibberson & Collins (now known as Fluegel, Anderson, McLaughlin & Brutlag Chartered) in Morris. She left the law firm in December of 1978 to start her own accounting and tax practice with her sister Barb Brown, and friend Jeanette Olson. In 1999, she sold the practice to CDS, and she continued to work for CDS until her retirement. Norene married Carl Moser on June 3, 1956.

Norene enjoyed the time spent at family gatherings, reunions, and vacations. She also enjoyed reading books, playing cards, board games, and puzzles. She was baptized as a member of the Apostolic Christian Church. Her faith was important to her and comforted her on her journey to be with Jesus.

Norene went to be with Jesus early February 21, 2022, in her home at West Wind Village in Morris, Minnesota. She lived to the age of 89.

She is survived by her husband Carl; her four sons: Todd (Kimberly) of Morris, Ben of St. Paul, MN, Carter of Morris, and Kent (Amy) of Fargo, ND; her five grandchildren: Heather Moser of Morris, Tyler (Anna) Moser of Morris, Abby, Sam, and Ellie Moser of Fargo; her two great-grandchildren, Mona and Renly Quiram of Morris; her siblings: Floyd Schmidgall of Morris, Barb (Vern) Brown of Morris, Marilyn (Ed) Lanz of Broad Brook, CT, and Marion Schmidgall of Morris; and her sister-in-law, Verona Schmidgall of Burnsville, MN.

Norene was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Brian Moser, who passed October 30, 2018; and several brothers and sisters.

Becky Lynn Felstul was born on June 18, 1954 to Merle and Sara (Lee) Felstul in Morris, Minnesota. She attended school in Morris until graduating in 1972, when she would move to Moorhead to attend school at Concordia College. On June 7, 1975, she married George Burnett and the two worked on their farm south of Alberta where they raised their five children.

When their children became school-aged Becky made the decision to work outside of the home once again. She held a variety of jobs until finding her calling at the Morris Co-op. Becky took pride in creating a welcoming environment and connecting with her customers. And the fact that it allowed her to catch up on all the gossip and keep tabs on her children was an added bonus. Becky continued to work until complications due to her stroke in 2016 forced her into retirement.

Becky had a big laugh, one that shook her whole body and was completely infectious. And while her laugh was big, her heart for her family, especially her grandchildren, was even bigger. She not only loved attending all of their sporting events and cheering in the stands, she also enjoyed sewing for them. Some of her greatest creations were matching shirts for her boys and baptismal gowns for all of her grandchildren. For many, Becky will be remembered for her amazing “Becky hugs,” her support in the local 4-H program when her kids were little, her love of Danielle Steele books, Barbies, Precious Moments figurines, and the Stevens County Fair, as well as her steadfast participation on the Scott Township Board. For her family, she will be remembered for her inability to order anything other than chicken alfredo if it was on the menu, her uncanny baby whispering abilities, her love of the holidays and putting out her Department 56 Christmas village, her endless and sometimes questionable cooking, her many charitable donations to the casino, her unique ability to fall asleep absolutely anywhere, but above all -- how much she loved all of them. The phrase “love you lots!!!” will be cherished and remembered by so many.

Becky passed away on February 20, 2022 at the Stevens CommunityMedical Center. She was 67 years old.

Becky is survived by her husband George Burnett of Morris; her children: Sarah (Travis) Rother of Chaska, MN, Nathan Burnett of Ruthton, MN, Aaron (Melissa) Burnett of Pipestone, MN, Adam (Alicia Bell) Burnett of Marshall, MN, and Matthew (Cari) Burnett of Alberta, MN; her grandchildren: Maggie and Hattie Rother, Kendra Wevley, Isabella and Liam Burnett, Hunter, Taya, Jacey, Hudson, Jocelyn, and Titan Burnett, Rayna Burnett, Jacoby, Jamis, Lana, and Bentlee Burnett; brothers: Bob (Geri) Felstul and Dick (Deb) Felstul; one brother-in-law, Gerry Tollakson; and one sister-in-law: Rita Jean Magnuson. Roland James Greiner was born to William and Rose (Feuchtenberger) Greiner on February 2, 1940. He was one of eight siblings growing up on the family farm. He graduated from Morris High School in 1958. On November 25, 1961, Roland was united in marriage to the love of his life Jan Ersted. The two were married at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Donnelly. The couple began their family on their own farmstead in rural Morris. Roland loved and was very fond of his farming days and the animals he raised. Through the years he would help where he was needed. He drove truck for Hanco*ck Concrete, the Donnelly Co-op, and CHS. He helped out area farmers and owned and operated Westside Grocery Store in Morris. After moving to Donnelly, he was very proud of owning and operating Sax’s Café where he loved visiting with customers and friends.

Roland and his son Greg were very fond of, and restored many John Deere antique tractors together to original (or better)condition. He also enjoyed daily visits with his daughter, Paula over the phone. He was an honest hard-working man that believed in doing things right the first time around, so they lasted for years and years to come. He was a great people person willing to talk to anyone and everyone. A sad day for Roland was the day the Donnelly elevator closed and having to find a new spot to meet his friends for chatting. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids by bringing them to stock car races, taking them fishing and golfing. He stayed active through the years by helping out at the church and maintaining the lawn mowing and making the church look good. He was a member of the St. John’s Church council and Vinger Cemetery board for more years than he could count. He took much pride in his work. After moving off the farmstead in Donnelly, he would still mow the lawn at the farm when he could. Roland was a very dedicated worker. He enjoyed stock car races, golfing, watching sports, and fishing.

Roland died on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at his home in Morris. He was 82 years old.

Roland is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jan Greiner; his son, Gregory (Dona) Greiner; his daughter, Paula Hufford; his grandchildren, Adam (Hannah) Bosen, Andrew Bosen, Amanda (Charles) Moser, Samantha Greiner, Brianna, Heather, and Brooke Hufford; his great-grandchildren, Noah, Weston, Kylie, and Hazel Moser, Lucas and Brody Bosen; siblings, Delores (Ron) Wiese, Joanne (Knute) Wevley, Ken (Pam) Greiner, Lloyd (Joy) Greiner, and Dick (Sandy) Greiner. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Rose Greiner; his brother, William Greiner II; his sister, Mary Lou Greiner; and his grandson, Jordan James Hufford.

Ronald Lee Bedel was born on July 20, 1944, in Morris to Vincent and Alta (Hovend) Bedel. He was raised in Morris and was baptized, confirmed, and received his first communion at Assumption Catholic Church. Ron received his education at St. Mary’s School. Ron met Darlene Engler in Morris; the couple began dating and were married on January 3, 1976, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hanco*ck. They made their home in Hanco*ck and welcomed a son, Cory. Ron spent his working years at Kolden Garbage Disposal and later Engebretson Disposal for over 35 years until his retirement in 2002.

Ron, who was lovingly referred to as “Beets,” enjoyed mowing the grass, on his beloved lawnmower that was always clean and waxed. He enjoyed playing cards and games with his family, shooting pool in the ‘pool hall’ in his garage and waxing his car. Family was of upmost importance to Ron, he could often be found following Cory’s sports teams all over, whether it was a little league team or the Hanco*ck Owls basketball team. Ron, Darlene, Cory and Jodi spent so much of their time together, and he always looked forward to Cory’s daily visits.

Ron died on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota; he was 77 years old.

Ron is survived by his wife, Darlene of Hanco*ck; sons: Cory (Jodi) Bedel of Hanco*ck, Brian (LuAnn) Bedel of St. Joseph, and Jason (Vicki) Bedel of Raymond; 9 grandchildren: Matthew, Nathan, Rachel, Kayla, Anthony, Jeremy, Alex, Chris, and Katie; one brother, Kenny Bedel of Vancouver, WA; sisters: Lynette (Gerlad) Swenson of DeGraff, and Sally (Gary) Thompson of Rialto, CA; and many other extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents: Vincent and Alta; sisters: Barb Bedel and Rochel Bedel; and brother, Jerry Bedel.

James Melvin Brownfield was born on September 13, 1921, in Humboldt County, Iowa to Joseph and Zula (Smith) Brownfield. Growing up James was always considered brave with a strong moral compass, which would serve him well when he enlisted in the United States Air Force on December 26, 1942. During his two years of service in Europe, he was awarded a bronze star for his efforts in the Battle of the Bulge. Upon his discharge on November 11, 1945, James moved back to Iowa where he purchased an oil business. Shortly after, James married Shirley Ann Anderson on June 11, 1947, and the two delighted in having four daughters. In 1966 he got out of the oil industry and moved his family to a farm south of Chokio, MN. Being a steward of the land was a natural calling for James, he was always known as a hardworking farmer, and many liked to tease he “gardened until he just couldn’t anymore.” James ran his farming operation until 1990, when he left Chokio and purchased a home in Morris.

James’s family and friends will not only remember him by his work ethic, but also by his fun-loving nature. He loved to tease, be mischievous, and make people laugh. He was an animal-lover, fisherman, and occasional camper. Memories of his annual hog roast for friends and neighbors will be left to cherish by many.

James passed away on Monday, January 31, 2022, at West Wind Village in Morris; he was 100 years old.

James is survived by his daughters: Denise (Bob) Murphy of Minneapolis, MN, Cheryl (Darin) Frank of Willmar, MN, Cathy (Randy) Boe of Morris, MN; one sister, Shirley Joiner of Ft. Dodge, IA; grandchildren: Jesse (Brittney) Boe of Barnesville, MN, John (Krista) Skow of Ankeny, IA, Teresa (Randy) Koster of Oswego, IL, Stacy (Trent) Dorothy of Ft. Dodge, IA; one son-in-law, Kenneth Zinnel of Ft. Dodge, IA; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; daughter, Bonita Zinnel; special friend Marie VanDyke; one brother; and eight sisters.

Elizabeth Lucille Gobernatz was born on September 2, 1930, to Anthony and Julia (Dirkes) Gobernatz in Browerville, Minnesota.She was baptized at St. Peter Catholic Church in Browerville and also received her firstcommunion and was confirmed there.Betty attended District 93 Country school from 1st through the 8th grade and then attended and graduated from Browerville High.In 1948, she moved to Morris with her family. While in Morris, she babysat and did housework for several families in the area.OnJuly 12, 1950, she was united in marriage to Raymond Jost. They made their home on the Jost farm outside of Morris and started their family, to this union, eight children were born.Betty cooked for Head Start in Morris, waitressed at the Ranch House in Morris, and also helped run the family farm.

Betty was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Morris where she was active in the St. Michael’s Mission Circle.She enjoyed gardening, planting flowers, fishing, camping, traveling, and sewing – especially quilts.A couple of her favorite spots were Key West, Florida, and Big Pine Lake by Perham.Betty’s stated her greatest accomplishment was her family. She was thrilled to watch her children grow and eventually have grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Betty died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, January 30, 2022, in Morris.She was 91 years old.

Douglas Raymond VanKempen was born on May 9, 1941, in Morris, Minnesota to Raymond “Nemo” and Irene (Fluegel) VanKempen, where he grew up andattended St. Mary’s School and Morris High School, graduating in 1959. On November 16, 1963, Doug was united in marriage to the girl next door, Mary Jane Hoyer. They made their home and raised their family in Morris. Doug began his career as a mechanic and worked at Fluegel Motors for many years. In 1980, he and Mary Jane opened Doug’s Auto Repair. The couple operated the business for over 30 years until their retirement.

In his younger years, Doug enjoyed playing softball, bowling, camping and snowmobiling. Doug was an active member of Assumption Catholic Church in Morris, where he served as an usher for many years. He was alsoan active member of the Knights of Columbus and involved with Boy Scouts. As he got older, he liked to spend time hunting, fishing, playing games, stargazing and watching sports of all kinds. Doug enjoyed being outside in all seasons and you could often find him riding his bike, walking or tinkering in his yard. Doug enjoyed having a beautifully manicured yard and worked to have the best yard in the neighborhood. On summer evenings, Doug and Mary Jane could be found sitting together in their screen house or tooling around town in their convertible. Family was very important to Doug. Whether at home, at the lake or traveling, he cherished every minute shared with family.

Doug was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. His love of ice cream, brownies and M&Ms was second only to his family. Doug died peacefully on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at Grand Arbor in Alexandria; he was 80 years old.

Doug is survived by his wife, Mary Jane of Morris; children: Kurt (Lisa) VanKempen of Coon Rapids, Sara (Mitch Finne) VanKempen of Eden Prairie, and Leah VanKempen of Morris; two grandchildren: Jake VanKempen of Minneapolis, and Eleanor Finne of Eden Prairie; siblings: Charles “Smokey” VanKempen of Chokio, Joseph (Deborah) VanKempen of Lenexa, KS, William (Debi) VanKempen of Hammond, WI, and Patricia (Roger) Christiansen of Gardner, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Darlene Lillian Struck was born on August 12, 1930 in Morris, Minnesota to Fred and Lillie (Mau) Struck. She was raised in Rendsville Township, Stevens County, Minnesota. Darlene was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church – Swan Lake Township and received her education at country school through the 8th grade and then Morris High School, graduating with the class of 1948. Following high school, she moved to Minneapolis to attend business college; after one year, she moved back home to help on the farm. While roller skating at the Perkins Lake hangout spot, Darlene met Leslie Bertram, the two began dating and were married at Emmanuel Lutheran Church on July 21, 1951. They made their home ½ mile from Darlene’s homeplace to her Uncle Ben’s farmsite, farmed and started their family. In 1961, they moved to Herman, one mile from Leslie’s homeplace, and continued farming. In 1977, they purchased a gas station in Herman, D & L Service. In the mid 80’s, Darlene started work outside of the home, running the Browse About gift shop in the back of the gas station. She worked there until D & L needed a new bookkeeper, at which time she started working alongside Les, running the station. In 2011, Leslie and Darlene moved into Herman. When Les passed away in January of 2014, she took over running the station with her granddaughter, Lisa. Later that year, Darlene suffered a stroke and moved into Skyview Assisted Living in Morris. In 2020, when she needed more care, she became a resident of West Wind Village where she lived until the time of her death.

Darlene was a member of Eden Reformed Church in Herman active in various church activities. This included being a Sunday school teacher and superintendent, ladies aide, and spent many years serving as the piano and organist. Darlene was a gifted musician, being able to read music and playing instruments by ear, especially her accordion. She spent many overtime hours being a homemaker, tending to her large vegetable and flower gardens. Assisting with the farm work was also a major part of the day during harvest. This included running combine for wheat harvest, her day ending by getting into the kitchen to make supper, hopefully before midnight! Darlene was also a member of the Stevens County Homemakers group, Country Bells, for many years.

Darlene died on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at West Wind Village in Morris, MN. She was 91 years.

She is survived by a daughter: Diana (Bobby Wimberly) Bertram of Herman; four sons: Mike Bertram of Herman, Dan Bertram of San Felipe, Mexico and Herman, Rick (Lori) Bertram of Fergus Falls and Brent Bertram of Herman. Grandchildren: Missy (Ryan) Bright, Lisa (Scott) Libbesmeier, Scott (Jamie) Bertram, Amy (Jason) Lennes, Lesly Bertram all of Herman, Darin Bertram of Carver, LaRee (Scott) Brunkow of Norcross, Adam (Alicia) Bertram of Alexandria, Kyla Bertram of Fergus Falls, Garrett Bertram of Morris and Alex Bertram of Herman; 20 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law: Darlene (Ted) Bertram of Bertha and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: Leslie Bertram and brother: Myron Struck.

Eyvonnepassed away early Friday, January 21, 2022, in the care of Julia's Place in Hanco*ck, she was 86 years old.

Eyvonne Razink was born on January 6. 1936, to Edward and Ann (Schultz) Razink on their family farm. On March 2, 1954, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hanco*ck, MN, she married her sweetheart LaVaughn Thielke and the new couple settled down in Hanco*ck to start their family. They were blessed with four boys, Harlow, Rick, Todd, and Jon. Eyvonne was a gifted and talented seamstress. She could sew just about anything with a mean cross stitch. Not only did she sew for her family, but just about everyone in town. She was employed at the Hanco*ck High School where she cooked for the many children and teachers for 31 years. LaVaughn passed away late August of 2007, the two were joyfully married for 53 years.

Eyvonne loved spending time with her family. Holidays were always special to her, making sure everyone in the family knew her love with a gallon pail of her homemade caramel corn. Her collection of angels was like no other. She was a strong and confident wife, mother, and grandmother. She led a great example to all her family with her faith and love in the Lord.

She is survived by her three sons, Harlow and his wife Cathy of Chaska, MN, Rick and his wife Cindy of Hanco*ck, Todd of Breckenridge, and one daughter-in-law, Karen of Hanco*ck; three brothers; two sisters; 8 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eyvonne is preceded by her husband, LaVaughn Thielke; her son, Jon Thielke; her parents Edward and Ann Razink; one brother; one sister; three brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and one great-grandchild.

Gladys Irene Strand was born on December 14, 1931, to August and Lydia (Ernst) Cin at her family home in Pepperton Township, Stevens County, Minnesota. Irene was baptized on February 28, 1932, at the Church of the Nazarene in Alberta. She grew up in the Donnelly area and attended country school until the 8th grade. She then continued her education at Alberta High School, graduating in 1950. At the age of 14, Irene met Burton Strand, the man of her dreams, while riding the bus. The two were married on September 28, 1950, in Alberta. Following their marriage, they made their home on a farm west of Donnelly and started their family. After her marriage, Irene joined Kongsvinger Lutheran Church in rural Donnelly, she was confirmed Lutheran in 1972. Irene worked outside of the home, first at Fingerhut then later at Jergenson’s Super Valu and Willie’s Super Valu decorating cakes. After her retirement from Willie’s, she cooked meals at West Central Homes in Morris, the Senior Center in Chokio and Casey’s. Irene worked with her sister-in-law, Lyla Cin, in her drapery business. Burton preceded Irene in death in 2011, she remained on the farm for a time before moving into Morris. She had recently moved to the Minnewaska Lutheran Home and was just settling in at the time of her death.

Irene had many interests and loved doing crafts of all kinds – she was very creative and talented, especially in painting, embroidery and sewing. She was not afraid to try anything new! Irene also looked forward to the annual girl’s trip with her daughters.

In 2016, Irene had the opportunity to be baptized by immersion in Lake Minnewaska near Glenwood by her brother, Leslie and niece, Julie. She was an active member of the church, teaching Sunday School and serving in the Ladies’ Aide and Homemaker’s Group.

Irene was always in a good mood. She was very inquisitive, asked a lot of questions, and was hardly shocked by the answers. Irene loved to visit and going anywhere was never a quick trip as she visited with everyone! She loved to drive fast! She attended Threshing Bees with Burton, going on road trips and spending time at their cabin on Pelican Lake near Ashby. Family was extremely important to her; she was always with them! She cherished the time that she was able to spend with her siblings, her kids and grandchildren.

Irene died on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, she was 90 years old.

Irene is survived by her four children: Becky Bergstrom of Donnelly, Bonnie (Craig) Moses of Donnelly, Burdell Strand of Donnelly and Beth (Conrad) Jackson of St. Paul Park; grandchildren: Mindy (Jake) Eystad, Christy Haynes, Jessica (Joe) Oelke, Andrea (Joha) Torma, Samantha (Joe Hanson) Bergstrom, Angela (Michael) Lachowitzer, Dylan (Victoria) Jackson, Eleanor (Tim) Rahn, and Kevin (Sarah) Moses; grandson-in-law: Jeremyah Wittern; 19 great-grandchildren: Aryn Parker, Lee and Garrett Eystad, Destiny and Lydia Pollard, Scarlet Bergstrom-McKee, Daphne, Phoebe, Aria, and Quinton Oelke, Jada Wittern, Mason, Sawyer, and Kalevi Torma, Rodney Jackson, Luke and Logan Lachowitzer, and Vivian and Fredrick Rahn; one brother-in-law: Merlyn Strand of Coon Rapids and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Burton; granddaughter, Nicole Wittern, great-granddaughter, Briar Bergstrom-McKee; sons-in-law: Charles Bergstrom and David Haynes; siblings: Phyllis (Ed) Windom, Wallace (Della) Cin, Orlyn (Lucille) Cin, Merlyn (Lyla) Cin, and Leslie (Lyla) Cin; and sister-in-law, Nancy Strand.
